No type of communication which we suggest is completely reliable and 100% safe. Each of them has advantages but also bears some threats. If you are unsure about which method you should use provide information to us, please contact us using one of the encrypted applications that we describe below. During first contact, please provide an outline of the problem – then we will give you tips on the best way to communicate further.
SIGNAL
The best way is to send us an SMS message to number +48601939423, using the Signal application, available on iOS and Android – it’s very easy to use. Signal works just like WhatsApp, but it gives users more security and anonymity.
Another advantage of using Signal is the secure ability to upload documents there. You can not include PDF or docx documents in it but you can send, for example, photos of them.
If you want to send us confidential documents, but you are not sure how to do it, it is best to use the Signal application – we will send you tips on what to do next.
Please note that when contacting us via Signal, we will know your phone number. We will not disclose it to anyone, we have an obligation to protect sources of information, but if you want to maintain full anonymity, use the following methods.
If you need maximum security and anonymity, create an anonymous e-mail account and send us an encrypted e-mail. How to do it?
Just send us an e-mail to the address: kontakt@fundacjareporterow.org. We regularly monitor this account and will contact you if we are interested in the topic. Please note that standard e-mails can be tracked and hacked (for more information on secure e-mail options, go to”Encrypted e-mails”).
Another way to contact us is an e-mail account registered under a pseudonym. This can be done via Gmail, Yahoo or any other email provider. If you choose this method, you can register such an account on your computer (less secure) or, for example, on a computer in a public library or Internet cafe (more secure). Registration or even logging in to such an account on your own computer, which might be monitored, may mean that such an account will be automatically tracked.
POST OFFICE
To contact us on the phone, we recommend the Signal application. You can call us and write to the number +48601939423.
It might also be the best option to send us a good old letter: documents sent by regular post are currently the most difficult to track down (if you don’t write your name or return address on the envelope). If you really care about security and full anonymity, it is better not to send documents from your home, from your workplace or post office near these places. It is worth paying attention to the mailboxes in the post offices, which are often monitored by video cameras.

SECURE EMAIL
To provide us with information via a more secure e-mail, you can use ProtonMail – an encrypted e-mail service invented in Switzerland. If you can set up a Gmail account, it means that you can work with ProtonMail, too. This free application automatically fully encrypts all messages passing from one ProtonMail account to another. You can also use the so-called PGP (Pretty Good Privacy) keys, data encryption methods to protect their content during Internet transmission. To do this, you need to download and familiarize yourself with the free software that generates a PGP key pair- one private, the other public, and insert it into the selected e-mail program.
It’s a good idea to extend your Mailvelope browser, which increases the Gmail browser interface.

If you want to send us photos or documents anonymously, you should consider an additional set of precautions.
Metadata: all information identifying the creator of an electronic file can be completely removed before submitting documents. Metadata often indicates who made or created a photo or document, software used to create or edit it, the date and time it was created, and even GPS coordinates – each of which can be used to identify the user.
